Picture Featured:    March 28, 2002 4-h Reality Store At Bchs
Here are some photos taken on Tuesday at Barren Co. High School. BCHS held its annual 4-H Reality Store. Students from several grades choose a job (and the bank account that goes with it). They then visit different tables representing real estate, utilities, transportation, insurance and so on. It's up to them to figure out how to get all the monthly bills paid and hopefully have money left over. After each class goes through this sometimes eye-opening process, they see how well they did. If they still have money in their account at the end of the month, they get a Payday candy bar. If they're in the red, they get a Zero candy bar. People from various businesses and city agencies volunteer their time to help out for the day.

This wasn't the Belmont, but it was the next best thing. Churchill Downs Saturday was alive and rooting for War Emblem, but to no avail. The Sisters of Serendipity and friends were there in full voice but War Emblem couldn't hear. The featured photos were of two races, the fifth and the seventh. The winners were #1A Earth Shaker and #5 Mayo on the Side. Earth Shaker was the only winner in my pocket for the day.

For your exclusive use.

Mammoth Cave NP Receives Kodak Grant

Superintendent Ronald Switzer announced today that Mammoth Cave National Park has received $2,200 worth of photographic equipment from Kodak through the National Park Foundation as part of the "Proud Partners of America’s National Parks" program. The equipment will be used to update the park's interpretive slide and digital image collection.

Mike Adams, Mammoth Cave's Chief Interpreter, says, “Through pictures, we can share the cave, rivers, and trails with people who aren’t able to travel. Those who do travel will have a better understanding of the karst region before they arrive.”

For more information on Mammoth Cave National Park, visit the park Website at www.nps.gov/maca/home.htm. For more information about the National Park Foundation and the Proud Partners of America’s National Parks program, visit www.nationalparks.org.
